Does having your own personal chef on-hand stirring up delicious home-cooked meals sound good to you? That growling stomach of yours doesn’t seem to mind.

This in-depth EveryPlate review looks outside the box (and also inside) to help you make an informed decision about joining their weekly subscription plan. EveryPlate delivers carefully crafted recipes with fresh ingredients that are ready to transform into mouth-watering edible creations. When you’re hangry (hungry + angry), what’s the only thing on your mind? Food would be a great guess. But what you’re really thinking about is eating that food.

At one point or another, we’ve all been hungry. Think back on that feeling when it’s been hours since your last meal. Food is on the way, but all you can do is wait. Any minute now, you’ll be stuffing your face. As your meal is being prepared; the aroma fills the room while every plate lays silent and empty, hoping to be the one that holds the food that feeds you. Your breaking point is near, you think you might faint, and you’re ready to take on any obstacle that gets in the way of you and a bite to eat. The anticipation is killing you, and just before you run out of patience, a delicious home-cooked meal appears before you.

Your meal is ready, and the wait is over. As you take your first bite, hunger is now a thing of the past. The flavors clash in all the right ways. You smile, you chew, and you nod because nothing else in this moment matters. The satisfaction rushing through you is well-deserved. Why? Because that tasty meal in front of you took a lot of patience. And that personal chef who made it all possible was you.

At less than $5 a meal, EveryPlate takes affordable meal delivery straight to your door. No more wasting time shopping for groceries. No more wondering what to eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. No more throwing money away on excess ingredients you’ll probably never use outside of that one specific dish you craved after seeing it on a screen somewhere.

EveryPlate removes all the inconvenient parts so you can focus on what matters most: cooking.

What is EveryPlate?

According to their website, they are America’s Best Value Meal Kit. Paying customers receive subscription boxes with food every week.

With a majority of their meals priced at $4.99 per serving, they are one of the most affordable meal delivery services out there.

EveryPlate provides two reasonably low-cost meal plans:

Dinner for 2

3 recipes per week
2 servings per recipe
+ $8.99 shipping

Dinner for 4

3 recipes per week
4 servings per recipe
+ $8.99 shipping

With these plans, you’re able to select your own dishes, skip weeks, and cancel anytime. The lack of commitment is a big reason I tried them out.

Who Should Use EveryPlate

People from all walks of life can benefit from a subscription with EveryPlate. It doesn’t matter if you’re single, in a relationship, married, or always in something complicated—you need to eat. EveryPlate takes care of all the hassle by bringing all the ingredients straight to you.

Picky eater? There are plenty of meal options to choose from. Whenever possible, omit the items you don’t like and substitute.

Cooking can be a meditative and relaxing experience. You can cook alone, cook with friends, with lovers, with your 4-legged buddy, or maybe with aliens. Not only is cooking fun, it can also a great bonding experience. Teamwork!

At some point, you’ll probably run into ingredients you’ve never had to prepare. For me it was orzo. Exposing yourself to unfamiliar ingredients will only enhance your cooking skills. Take it as a learning experience. Explore new ingredients. Expand your palate. You never know, maybe you’ll realize that an ingredient you’ve been avoiding all your life tastes good after all.

EveryPlate is a subscription box for everyone.

Why Choose EveryPlate

With all the meal kit services available, deciding which one to get can be tricky. In 2019, there are plenty of monthly subscription boxes to choose from. There are other cheap meal delivery kits out there, so why should you pick EveryPlate? To answer this, you must assess your current situation.

When it comes to finding the best meal kit delivery service, ask yourself this: What matters to you most? Is it the recipes? The meal selections? The price? The subscription plan?

EveryPlate is an inexpensive meal plan with a wide selection of tasty recipes. They provide quality ingredients that are always fresh. The portions for every recipe have left me completely satisfied without being overly full. Their recipes are usually spot on which means less food goes to waste.

Their home chef meal delivery is entirely flexible with no commitment. If you’re on a budget, require value, and want the convenience of receiving your meals by mail, give EveryPlate a try.

How it works

The process is simple:

  3. Cook Delicious Meals

Choose Your Meals

Every week, subscribers have the option to choose 3 items from a selection of 8 chef-created recipes. If you’re feeling extra risque or lazy, you can leave the decision in EveryPlate’s hands.

Get Your Delivery

After choosing what you want to eat for the week, you’ll have your groceries delivered straight to you. All you have to do is wait. Cook Delicious Meals

Now that you have all your ingredients, the fun part begins: cooking. Cook whatever you’re craving, store whatever you want to save. With EveryPlate meals, the choice is yours. How convenient is that?

What’s Inside the Box?

Each delivery contains fresh, pre-portioned ingredients. They line the box with insulation and multiple gel ice packs to keep everything cool. There’s also a smaller box included that holds the ingredients, along with three recipe cards. The cards display prep and cooking times, an image of the final cooking result, ingredients, an easy-to-follow recipe, and they even provide a “Chef’s Tip” section. Each recipe is also available to view online.

EveryPlate considers the weather before shipping items to you. Their climate-smart packaging makes sure all the ingredients arrive fresh. Their minimal packaging is eco-friendly, and mostly everything is recyclable.

EveryPlate Menu

The items on their menu change every week to give you more choices. Most of the options are $4.99, and there’s usually one premium option that costs an extra $2.99 per serving. Although they don’t cater to special dietary needs, there’s typically one veggie item available per week. They will also warn you if something is spicy.

If you’re curious, upcoming meals are available for anyone to view by going to EveryPlate.com and clicking WEEKLY MENU.

Before you subscribe, it’s important to note that you’ll need some items. Aside from a refrigerator to store ingredients and an oven and burner to cook food, there are a few basic necessities required on your part.

Missing Ingredients

These are basic pantry staples you may already have. Before choosing a meal, always check the recipe to make sure you have everything. Here are some useful and common pantry essentials that are not Included:

Brown Sugar
Olive Oil
Vegetable Oil

Required Kitchen Tools:

There’s a high chance you’ll have most of these kitchen supplies in your home. Here are the cooking tools I’ve had to use with a majority of EveryPlate’s menu items:

Mixing Bowl
Baking sheet
Aluminum Foil
Cutting Board
Oven Mitts

Kitchen Tools On Demand

Cooking in the kitchen doesn’t have to be difficult. Some Kitchen equipment isn’t always necessary, but it can save a lot of time. Here are a few more cooking utensils that were required for certain meals:

Potato masher
Measuring Cups
Measuring Spoons

Kitchen Sets

If you’re a beginner cook or someone who’s been cooking for a while, a majority of these items are probably sitting somewhere in your kitchen cabinets. But if you’re just learning how to cook or want to expand or upgrade your arsenal of tools, a kitchen set is a great option that won’t break the bank. Instead of acquiring the items above individually, a kitchen & dining set is a great way to start. Here are a few options that cover most of the items you’ll need:

Meals I’ve Tried So Far

I base my meal choices on two things:

  1. What I think looks good
  2. What I think I might like.

My palate has evolved with every new recipe I’ve eaten, and my experience in the kitchen has improved with every new ingredient I’ve come across. My favorite meals are the ones involving steak. In no particular order, here’s a few of EveryPlate’s menu items I’ve tried so far:

  • Griddled Onion Burgers with Creamy Dijon Aioli and Frites
  • Italian Pork Meatballs and Linquine with Roasted Garlic Tomato Sauce
  • Vietnamese Steak Bowl with Carrot, Pickled Cucumber, and Sriracha Mayo
  • Chicken Sausage Orzo Pilaf with Roasted Garlic, Lemon, and Tomatoes
  • Gooey Stuffed Pork Burgers with BBQ Onion and Crispy Potato Wedges
  • Sweet Sriracha-Glazed Meatballs with Roasted Carrots and Jasmine Rice
  • Party Thyme Steak with Garlic Ciabatta and Roasted Green Beans
  • Easy Chicken Fajitas with Zesty Sour Cream
  • Lemon-Garlic Butter Steak with Roasted Pepper Orzotto
  • Beef Banh Mi Bowl with Sriracha Mayo, Carrot, and Pickled Cucumber
My favorite meals tend to be the ones that involve steak.

Helpful Tips

  • Save the smaller boxes for sorting ingredients. You can stack them together in the fridge.
  • After sorting ingredients, place the recipe cards with each specific meal so you don’t lose it.
  • If you want to “drizzle” with style, use a cruet.
  • Even though the plans are recommended for 2 or 4 people, you can eat everything yourself.
  • Read each recipe beforehand online to make sure you have all the tools and ingredients.
  • If you have food allergies, make sure to check the allergen information online before selecting a meal.
  • You don’t always have to use every ingredient. Whenever possible, substitute or remove.
  • Don’t get discouraged if you exceed prep and cooking times. Unless specific times are required, go at your own pace.
  • Try cooking with someone. It speeds up the process and you’ll bond at the same time.
  • Your cooking skills and experience are bound to improve with every meal.
  • Empty contents of gel ice packs into trash before recycling.
  • Dispose the cotton inside of the liners before recycling the film.
  • Invest in a decent chef knife. You’ll cut prep time and sharpen your accuracy.
  • Keep a waste bin or a bag near to throw away trash and keep your space clean.
  • Always practice safety first

Use them to organize your meals for the week.

For most of my life, I’ve been picky with food (my friends can attest to this), so I was reluctant to join a meal kit service. But since I enjoy cooking, I took a chance on EveryPlate.

EveryPlate’s meal selection has allowed me to challenge myself to try new things. It has helped me discover new cooking methods and how to multitask in the kitchen. Having all the ingredients brought to my door and a recipe to follow has been a huge time-saver. I haven’t run into any problems, but knowing their customer service team is available 24/7 via live chat to help puts me at ease. With no commitment plans, there really isn’t much to lose.

After 6+ weeks and over 18 meals later, I don’t plan to cancel my subscription any time soon. If you like delicious quality ingredients delivered to your doorstep, all while saving time, money, and sharpening your cooking skills—EveryPlate is worth a try.

Are you ready to teach yourself to cook at home?
